Chasing Shadows Tour

Follow in the footsteps of the Northern Legionary Cohort, along the Roman Roads of the Lake Distinct which covers some of England’s most stunning and breathtaking landscapes, from Hard Knott Roman Fort to a 5000 year old stone circle. We will take you on a journey to the top of the Hard Knott Pass to the exposed Roman fort, followed by a drive through the beautiful Langdale Valley, to lunch on the shore of Lake Windermere, we take you to the top of Kirkstone Pass (Britain’s highest), with a stop at a 14th Century Coaching Inn, then onto a 5000 year old stone circle, the fall of the Roman Occupation and the legend of King Arthur.

Full Day Tour: Itinerary
After we pick you up your journey starts, taking you up the Wrynose Pass, which is the 2nd steepest pass in England, following on to the Hard Knott Pass the steepest pass in England, to arrive at the Roman Fort. On the way we look into the Roman invasion of Britain and the march north to the Lake District and how the fort played an important role for the Roman Empire and its borders.

We will then take a tour through the Langdale Valley and its majestic and commanding peaks, following onto Waterhead for lunch on the shores of Lake Windermere and a look at Galava Gate Roman Fort. Then we proceed up “The Struggle” onto the famous Kirkstone Pass [Britain’s Highest] with the option of a drink in a 14th century coaching inn. We will then drop down onto the Shores of Ullswater and take a look at the High Passes the Romans used. We then leave the Romans and follow on to the 5000 year old Castlerigg Stone Circle. After this it’s a trip to Dunmail Rise and a look into the fall of the Roman Occupation and the Legend of King Author and King Dunmail.
Then we take a scenic drive back through the South Lakes to your hotel. Book This Tour
